Photo Exhibit: "Not Paintings"
March 14, 2003
Crucible Gallery, SM Megamall,
Building A, Level 4

They are not paintings. But you would have to look twice to notice that they are actually photographs by New York-based photographer Pinky Urmaza who started painting at 7 years old. Finding a medium that would allow her to fuse painting techniques with modern photography was a thrill. From an old Polaroid camera she bid on E-bay, she started taking photos of her travels. "Capturing the moment with quick results" was what she liked about the Polaroid. It was something new and different from her black and white photography.

With the help of a fellow photographer in New York, she rediscovered the scratching technique which was in vogue during the 70's. "I find it fun to imprint my own interpretation of the photograph on the surface of the time zero film."

Visit Pinky Urmaza's opening exhibit "Not Paintings" at the Crucible Gallery, SM Megamall, Building A, Level 4 on Friday, March 14, 2003. Part of the proceeds will be donated to the Bukas Sarili Foundation which funds & manages programs for PGH charity patients.
