Carolling at the Wards
December 27, 2001
3.00 pm - 5.00 pm
Philippine General Hospital Internal Medicine Wards

Our annual Christmas Caroling at the Wards was held at PGH last Dec 27. Although it was still a workday for most, the members' participation, coupled with the talents of our generous friends in Bukas Palad Music Ministry, made the event a success.

Thanks to all those who took part in distributing our 100 packs of giveaways, each containing rice, variety of canned goods, instant noodles and sweets to the patients--Angel Pineda, Mike Alimurung, Quintin Pastrana, Lea Clavecilla, Mike Julian, Lisa Ledesma, Treena Relova, Jay Estoya, and John Quinto.

Special mention to Angel, Mike and Arra Manuel for their invaluable support in dividing the 2 cavans of rice into 100 plastic bags, for running off to S&R and source the canned goods, drinks and instant noodles, and in organizing the 100 packs of giveaways. With their enthusiams, this daunting and critical task of preparing the giveaways was a breeze.

Thank you Ana Narciso for providing the pick-up to transport the giveaways, Eddie Santos for the sweets, Paolo Sanchez for the 100 Funchum drinks, Quintin and Ms. Purita Nepomuceno for the sacks of rice.

Of course, a Christmas Caroling cannot be without the carolers. We are so indebted to the kindness of the Bukas Palad Music Ministry in extending their time (during the holiday break!) and amazing talents which moved a number of the patients and their families to tears. Thanks to Jason Villaroman, Lui Morano, Palan Reyes, Roy Tolentino, Erwin Arandia, Ali Figueroa, Tonet Santana, Noel Miranda, Dedette Alcantara, Eloi Bermio, Paola Deles, Anna Galvez, Pia Reyes, Ayee Venida, Leilah Alarilla, Sheerin Castillo, Jowi de Guzman, Laine Santana, and Pia Santos.

The group gave a sincere and warm rendition of around 5 Tagalog and English Christmas songs in the wards we visited. We started off with our beneficiaries in the Internal Medicine wards, then moved to the Burn Trauma Ward. As a final performance, we visited the kids of the Pediatrics ward. All in all, we were able to visit 5 wards This initial collaboration with Bukas Palad was made possible with the help of Dedette, Anne Maigue and Rose Reyes.

Thanks to the staff and resident doctors of PGH for allowing us to conduct our event. And finally, to the patients and their families for making the experience both worthwhile and meaningful.
