SOCIAL CHANGE Each time a person stands up for an ideal, acts to
improve the lot of others, or strikes out against injustice,
he sends forth a tiny ripple of hope; and crossing each
other from a million different centers of energy and daring,
those ripples build a current that can sweep down the
mightiest walls of oppression and resistance.
The vessel must be shaken or broken to release the
perfume; the stone must be struck to raise a spark.
There is something providential in the persecution of
tyrants.
The difference between what we do and what we are capable
of doing would suffice to solve most of the world's
problems.
We must be the change we wish to see in the world.
The dice of fate has been rolled and each one of us has
been assigned a role to play. Ours is to keep lighting the
beaconlight of freedom for those who have lost their way.
Ours is to articulate the fervent hopes of a people who
have suddenly lost their voices. Ours is to adopt the
solid stance of courage in the face of seemingly hopeless
odds so that hope no matter how dim or distant will never
banish from sight.
No real social change has been brought about without a
revolution... revolution is but thought carried into action.
How far that little candle throws its beams!
